When I finally settled on playing bass over guitar or keyboards, the first person that really amazed me was Mark King. This was way back in 1982-83, when he was reaching prominence in the U.K.
The very first time I saw him, he was playing Mr. Pink. I enjoyed how the slap bass line seemed to fit right in with the drum pattern. Then, towards the end of the piece, all the other instruments stopped, even the drums (as Mark has said... "When the drums stop, it's the bass solo")! What happened after that made my jaw drop! He played a kind of "pitter patter" run that went on for sixteen bars, and it seemed effortless. These were triplets strung together like I'd never heard!

The best way to learn these thoroughly is to look at the full lesson I made. You can view this lesson by clicking HERE. Rather than me re-inventing the wheel in this section, you will probably benefit toa much greater degree by following the link above, since it is much more thorough that what I have room for here.
