This next technique gives a more "bluesy" / "funky" sound to straight pentatonic runs by adding a major third note at two points in the progression.
It involves a lot of hammering on and can sound very fast and flowing when executed consistently. This also lets you practice slap hand and fret hand syncopation, in order to try to get that illusion of speed!

We are going to play a root A to root B progression, so to start this riff off, play E-String 3rd Fret hammer on to 5th Fret, dead note A-String 3rd Fret, A-String 3rd Fret hammer on to 4th Fret (major 3rd), two dead notes on A-String 5th Fret, A-String 5th Fret hammer on to 7th Fret, dead note D-String 5th Fret, D-String 5th Fret hammer on to 7th Fret, popped G-String 5th Fret hammer on to 6th Fret (major 3rd). Now the root B progression goes:E-String 5th Fret hammer on to 7th Fret, dead note A-String 5th Fret, A-String 5th Fret hammer on to 6th Fret (major 3rd), two dead notes on A-String 7th Fret, A-String 7th Fret hammer on to 9th Fret, dead note D-String 7th Fret, D-String 7th Fret hammer on to 9th Fret, popped G-String 7th Fret hammer on to 8th Fret (major 3rd).
Quite a mouthful! This is more complex than the previous run, but can be used in conjunction with it to really fill out a solo piece.
